8 ways to keep your room more organized

I love having my room all cleaned up and organized. It makes me happier and more productive. And I don’t think I’m the only one who feels better when their room is cleaned up.  But there is one little problem: it isn’t always easy to keep your room from not being messy.I think we all deal with the problem that is a messy room. And sometimes cleaning everything up might even feel pointless because you feel like that in no time it’s going to be a mess again. Now, what if I told you that I have the key to a cleaned up room that is longlasting. That sounds good, right? What I’m talking about is organizing your room. I’m going to share some tips that I’ve learned from my own experience with organizing my room throughout the years. And trust me these aren’t the standard tips you read about everywhere. You might even never have thought of some of these tips before.

1. Dividing spaces by category

First of all, it’s important that every drawer, box or shelf in your room has a purpose. You need to divide them into categories because if a place doesn’t have a specific purpose, it’s going to eventually end up becoming a very messy place. And that is the last thing you want. So when you’re planning on organizing your room better, look at all the drawers, boxes and shelves, one by one, and think by yourself what they’re purpose is. And if they don’t have one yet, give them one. I know it’s impossible to give every place on your room a purpose, but just try to do it as much as you can.

2. Organize your drawers

When visible places in your room begin to get messy, it can be so tempting to open up a drawer and throw some stuff in it. After that, your room might look all cleaned up, but you’re actually just deceiving yourself. You only moved the mess to a less noticeable place. To prevent yourself from doing this, divide the space inside your drawers by using drawer organizers or boxes for in your drawers to keep it as organized as possible there.

3. Be careful with corners

You might not have thought of this yet, but a corner is most of the time the place where a mess starts. I actually have to admit that, at the moment, there even are some corners in my room kind of messy. So be aware of the corners on your room and don’t put things there too often. And if you see a mess developing in one of the corners on your room, clean it up immediately because before you know, the mess will only get bigger and bigger.

4. Keep your earphones in tealight holders

When you own multiple pairs of earphones, I’m sure you know the struggle of them being all tangled up. And having to untie them is a terrible situation you wish upon nobody. To prevent this all from happening, you can use tealight holders to put your earphones in and keep them apart. Seriously, this has been a lifesaver for me.

5. Pick at least one day a month to clean your room up

If you want to keep your room all organized and cleaned up, you’re going to have to clean up regularly. Depending on how much time you spend in your room, you should decide after how much time you should clean up your room. My advice is to do it once a month.

6. Leave your clothes where they belong

This is such an important tip. If you, like me, take a lot of time and clothing pieces creating an outfit, you understand that once you have found what you want to wear, you don’t feel like cleaning up your mess of clothing that you have tried on, but that didn’t make it to the final outfit. Or what about the moment you’re just very tired and change into some other clothes, not feeling like cleaning up the clothes you were wearing before. And what you do is, you throw all the clothes into a corner of your room and it’s the beginning of a big mess. Stop it! I know it’s hard, trust me, but if you try to leave your clothes where they belong, it’s going to make your room look a lot more cleaned up.

7. Find beautiful boxes to use for storage

Last summer in Bulgaria I bought a beautiful green traditional pot, that you can see in the picture above. At first, I used it just as decoration, but only shortly ago I came to the idea to also use it to store things in. So this is basically where beauty and efficiency come together, right?

8. Display your jewelry

And last but not least, don’t keep all your jewelry in one box. Or else you will get the same problem as with the earphones. And because the last thing you want is one big mess that consists out of bracelets, necklaces and earrings you should hang them up or put them on a special display. There are different kinds of hangers and displays for accessories that are of such good help with organizing and displaying them perfectly.
