A few short reviews of movies I’ve seen recently

During the summer months, I have seen quite a few movies. At least, for me it’s much. I usually don’t watch movies that much, but lately I’ve seen more and more movies I found interesting passing by. And when I find a movie I’d like to watch, I want to watch it as soon as possible. I want to just do it. So that’s what I did. Today I want to tell you about these movies that I’ve watched recently and let you know my thoughts on it.

Crazy Rich Asians ★★★★★

I. Loved. This. Movie. So. Much. This movie has only been out for like 1,5 week so far and it was only a few days ago that I watched this movie. This movie is about Rachel Wu, who’s Chinese from origin but has lived in New York all her life. Her boyfriend Nick Young, who’s from Singapore, wants to take Rachel to a family wedding in Singapore so that Rachel also finally can meet his family. But there’s something Nick hasn’t really told Rachel yet. He’s from a rich family. And not just rich, but rich as in the richest family of Singapore. The movie made me laugh so hard and cry just as hard. It was such an amazing movie. And this is not just another incredible movie because this movie had, for the first time in 25 years, an all-Asian cast. I think this movie is a very big achievement for the representation of Asian people in Hollywood. I loved seeing a movie with only Asians. It was so refreshing and different. I loved this.

Midnight Sun ★★★★★

This movie has really touched me. It’s about 17-year old Katie Price. She has a rare disease, she can’t handle sunlight. Even the slightest bit of sunlight touching her body could turn out deadly for her. Her life starts every night after the sun has set. She goes to the train station to play her guitar and sing there. Music is a big passion of her. One night, her long-time crush Charlie runs into her there. What he doesn’t know is that she has been admiring him from for years. Katie keeps her disease a secret from Charlie and the two of them spend their summer full of romance together. The movie reminds of ‘Everything, Everything’ and ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, but I find this one even better. And it also has some amazing music in it. It a cute and light, but heavy story at the same time. I’d recommend watching it.

#RealityHigh ★★★★☆

If you’re looking for a good high school movie, this Netflix original might just be what you’re looking for. This movie felt different than other high school movies I’ve seen before but in a good way. The movie is about Dani Barnes, a very serious student. When Dani finally gets attention from the boy who she’s had a crush on for a very long time, her life is turned upside down. The ex-girlfriend of the boy isn’t happy with all the attention Dani is getting from him. So all of a sudden the ex-girlfriend tries everything in her power to become best friends with Dani. This girl, who got very famous on social media, pulls Dani into her very glamorous life, which brings Dani’s plans for the future in danger. I honestly don’t have much more to say about this movie, except for the fact that I also really recommend this one.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again ★★★★★

When I heard this movie was coming out I was so happy! I can remember watching that movie when I was still a young child like it was yesterday. And when the movie trailer came out I was even more excited. In this sequel to ‘Mamma Mia’ is about to open up the hotel her mother dreamed of opening years ago on the Greek island Kalokairi. Besides that, Sophie also finds out that she’s pregnant. Sophie’s mother has passed away some time ago and with these things that are currently happening in Sophie’s life, she has never missed her mother more. The movie gives you a look back on the past how Sophie’s mother met her Sophie’s three fathers and how she ended up on Kalokairi. This movie was so fun and emotional to watch. It brought back these island atmosphere and the incredible ABBA songs. And in this movie was also someone else, who I was very excited to see and hear singing, Chèr. She played in this movie! Pretty cool, right?

The Shallows ★★★★☆

The Shallows is a movie that has been out a little longer than the ones above. I know I’ve wanted ever since it came out but I just never did. That was until I saw it passing by on Netflix a few weeks ago. I was in the mood to watch a movie, so that’s what I did. The Shallows is about Nancy. She loves surfing and wants to also do that at a remote beach, her now deceased mother also went to years ago. When she goes surfing, she’s attacked by a white shark not far from the coast. The injured Nancy ends up stuck on a rock surrounded by a lot of water. She’s only a few hundred meters away from the mainland, but the water is not a very safe place at that moment. There is nobody anywhere near to help her. Will she make it out alive, is the question. Although you will find me watching romance movies most of the time, I also like a good thriller every now and then. This was definitely one of them and a good one. Blake Lively is just an amazing actress and I think she nailed it. I only found myself looking away sometimes when scenes became a little too bloody for me.

Adrift ★★★★☆

This movie has something to do with traveling and the soundtrack, Where’s my love by SYML, is one of my favorite songs. Only these two things already are reasons for me to love this movie. It’s about two adventurers, Tami and Richard, who meet each other on the island of Tahiti. A couple that Richard knows offers the two of them ten thousand dollars to sail their boat to San Diego. They decide to do it. But then when they’re at sea, a tropical storm passes by. And that’s when their adventurous and romantic journey turns into a disaster. This movie had so many things I loved about it. Traveling, romance, thriller, drama. I love those things. I do have to admit though that while I was watching the movie, I lost my concentration on the movie. Maybe some parts were a little long-dreaded, I can’t remember it that well anymore. Not that it matters that much. It was a great movie.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before ★★★☆☆

I have quite some things to say about this movie. I first of all wasn’t even sure if I was going to watch this movie. In case you didn’t know, this story is another one of the many books that have been turned into a movie. I read the book last year and I can tell you that I have never disliked a book so much. I don’t think it was because of the writers writing style though. I think it was because of the main character, Lara Jean. She annoyed me so much. She is just so innocent and incredibly stupid. I find her personality hard to describe, but she just has a personality that makes me roll my eyes for ten seconds straight. But I have to say that I actually enjoyed the movie. So the story’s about Lara Jean Covey,  she has written love letters to all her former crushes (around 5), addressed them and kept them in a box ever since. But one day, all of a sudden the letters have been sent to her crushes. This obviously turns her life into chaos when she has to confront all her former crushes. Well, I found Lara Jean’s character less annoying in the movie than in the book, but I still kind of disliked her. That didn’t make it a bad movie though, I think the movie was very good. What doesn’t really help this situation though is how much everyone is praising this movie on social media. It is getting so overhyped. It was indeed a very nice movie with a really cute guy (Noah Centineo) and it was an amazing achievement to have an Asian girl as narrator, but besides that movie was not that special. It’s just another nice high school romance movie.

Well if you got all the way to here, thank you so much for reading this full post! Just keep in mind these are my opinions and they might differ from yours. And that’s totally fine! Let me know your opinions if they’re different because I always love to hear other people’s thoughts. I hope you have a lovely day!
