Looking back on 2018: my nine most liked Instagram pictures

The end of 2018 is nearing and I just can’t believe it. Never before have I felt a year passing by so fast. I would like to look back with you at my 2018 by telling you the stories behind my nine most liked Instagram pictures of this year.

My first post of this year was actually a throwback to the summer of 2016. That’s when I went the Greek island Zakynthos. It was such a beautiful island. A great way to discover an island by exploring it on a scooter or a bicycle. My dad and I decided to do the exploring by bicycle and it was incredible. It’s so different than seeing your surroundings from a car, you’re so much more into it when no doors or walls are blocking you from feeling and breathing in the fresh island air. One of the stops we made was close to this house. I loved it. I love the color and the shape of the house, the balconies and the stairs, it just looked like a really cool house to me.

This is a poem I wrote back in the autumn of 2017. The seasons itself is also were this poem is about. Go read it, it speaks for itself. But because this poem wasn’t written in 2018, in some way this post is also a throwback.

I adore sunsets. I think I fell in love with them when I started to get more interested in photography. And ever since then, I have tried to capture as many sunsets as possible. Every captured sunset is like a treasure to me. A funny fact is that most pictures of sunsets I take are taken from my attic room. That is because I spend a lot of time there. This sunset is another one taken from there. Doesn’t the sight look breathtaking?

And here’s yet another throwback picture. I took this one when I went to Lisbon with my mom in the spring of 2017. I’m so proud of this picture. I really like it how it turned out. The picture just has a certain atmosphere. It has these vintage vibes that I just love.

This picture is very recent because it was take on this year’s Christmas day! It was taken at my aunt and uncle’s house where we were celebrating Christmas that day. Their tree was so beautiful and also perfectly located, next to a window. I hadn’t thought about the lightning in this picture before. It was only after the pictures were taken, that I realized how beautiful the lightning was.

This picture of me was taken back in September when I was showing a friend from the US around in The Netherlands. We went to a few different cities of which one was the beautiful Utrecht. The exact location this picture was taken in the garden of the conservatory of Utrecht. The place is located in the middle of the city and it’s such a gem.

There is this hobby that I have that the picture above portrays. It’s kind of like scrapbooking, but different. It’s basically a notebook in which I create beautiful pages by glueing paper and other stuff onto those pages. The two pages you see on the picture are an example of what my creations look like. It’s something I love doing in my free time.

Like I said earlier in this post, I absolutely adore sunsets. And I spontaneously stumbled across this sunset when I was walking in the city center of another Dutch city called Amersfoort. When I took this picture I was standing on a square. There was a tree in the middle, decorated with beautiful fairy lights and when I looked up I could see the sky colored in pink and purple shades. It literally was a fairytale sunset in the middle of the city.

And the last picture is also one I’m very proud of. It was actually also taken from my attic bedroom. A hot air balloon was going to land on a field close to my house, which I had never seen happening before, and it was so low, it was so cool to see!

I hope you liked reading about the stories behind my 9 most liked Instagram pictures of 2018. I’ll speak to you again in 2019! Happy new year already!

Love, Margriet
