How a simple compliment can change lives

Lately, I’ve told some people how much they and what they’re doing, means to me. And the appreciation and love I got back from those people, was so great to experience. It’s amazing how the slightest compliment can completely brighten up someone’s day. I think it’s something we underrate, the power of complimenting.

I can remember my hairdresser once telling me that she thought I had a beautiful hair color and I can remember a good friend of me in secondary school, telling me she loved my clothing style. Both of them probably didn’t really think much of their compliment, but to me, their words meant so much. They made my day brighter and put a smile onto my face. I won’t ever forget those words, their compliments.

Maybe you can relate to that or maybe you haven’t really ever had someone complimenting you. But even if you’ve never been told such a thing, that shouldn’t keep you from doing it yourself. I’m pretty sure that everyone once in a while notices something that they like about someone. But I feel like we often just keep it to ourselves. It’s just one of the many daily thoughts that cross our minds. Especially the thinkers and the ones that don’t always talk that much out there have so many thoughts that are never spoken out loud. That used to be me too. But throughout the years I somehow have learned how happy the littlest compliment a person can make. I now tell people more often when there’s something I like or appreciate about them. It’s something that makes people feel seen and don’t we all deep down crave for that?

So if there’s one big piece of advice I can give you, it’s that if you like a certain thing about someone or what they’re doing, don’t let it stay just a thought. Let it be more than that. Put that thought into words. Let people know what you like, love or appreciate about them. Spreading love is so easy. A simple compliment is the extra ray of sunshine we can all use. Always.

Love, Margriet

They can definitely make a huge difference, give someone’s confidence a much needed boost and make someone’s day that little bit happier. something so small but it can have a bigger impact than we thought. And I definitely agree, we should say them more often

Such a beautiful thought to be able to brighten someone’s day by making a single compliment. I think that should be right up there with gratitude journal king.

This is so important to hear. I remember someone telling me have nice skin and I have never forgotten that. Thanks for reminding us all that small moments have a lasting impact.

I so agree with complimenting others. It seems the right thing to do. It’s also amazing the reactions I get when I do it. It’s like the person goes into shock. I don’t think In some cases it’s because they don’t think of themselves in that way but more because someone acknowledge them or noticed them to make a complementing gesture.
